The UV Manicure Question: What Really Happens to Your Skin?

The evidence shows UVA exposure and laboratory signs of cellular damage. It does not yet establish how much, if at all, routine gel manicures increase skin-cancer risk in humans. Reducing exposure is a reasonable precaution.
